8 Action Movies That Will Keep You Glued To Your Seat

Who doesn't like a good action movie? Explosions, thrilling fight scenes, and women that seem to come from nowhere -- all good characteristics of action films that actually make forget about the popcorn for a moment and get so deep into a story that we really start imagining that our lives are really as cool as the movies.

Not that it's going to happen like that, of course. Still, a movie fan can dream -- and count down 8 action movies that will keep anyone glued to their seat for the entire film. What more do you want? Let's go!

1. Enemy of the State -- What do you do when the entire government is looking for you? It's their technology against yours and the clock is definitely ticking. When you're trying to outrun the entire nation, you really have to be careful -- and this is exactly what Will Smith has to go through. Running from the law when you're innocent is a classic action movie theme, but Enemy of the State really pulls you in and keeps you guessing. It's a few years old now, but it's definitely an action movie that deserves to be at the top of the list.

2. The Dark Knight -- From the first five minutes, you're left wondering what in blazes is going on -- and that's exactly the point. Forget any and every movie cliché that you've run across -- the Dark Knight will take them and turn them into banana puree. Christian Bale plays a very serious Batman, and that's exactly what you need to see here. In this movie, Batman squares off against a very genre-savvy, cunning Joker. As a side note, this was the last film that Heath Ledger made before he died.

3. I, Robot -- Are the robots really coming to get us? This is a great movie for a number of reasons. For starters, it's an example of how science fiction can really come to life and lead to some interesting questions, and secondly...Will Smith. Need we say more? Even though Will Smith makes a lot of movie lists, there's just no way to leave him off and still keep a straight face. It's just too much fun watching Will Smith run from robots gone wild, and the ending will definitely make you think as well.

4. Casino Royale -- No good action movie list would be complete without a mention of at least one Bond movie. The Bond franchise is the stuff of action movie legends, and every honest action movie buff has to see at least one Bond film in their lives. Casino Royale is an interesting pick because this was the first Bond film by Daniel Craig, who was a hotly debated choice for the new Bond actor. Did he pull off the role and really bring life to the role? Well, that too is up for debate, so the only way to really find out for yourself is to give it a good watch.

5. X-Men -- Who doesn't like action movies that are based off of comic books? There's something about these movies that awakens a certain part of us -- our inner child. If you loved your X-Men comic books, you'll find that the first X-Men movie really gives new life to the phrase "action film". Check it out for yourself!

6. Minority Report -- This science fiction meets action flick is all about a world where your thoughts can get you arrested -- literally. When the head of the precrime department is brought in under a murder accusation, it's up to him to use the same system he works for to defend his innocence.

7. The Bourne Identity -- Sure, we could have listed the later films in this franchise, but why skip over the film that really started it all? You will really be on the edge of your seat as you watch Jason Bourne work over the pieces of a past that he's trying desperately to figure out -- while his former employers figure out how to do their best to keep him from finding out the real truth.

8. Enemy at the Gates -- If you like spy thrillers that have plenty of twists and turns, then you will really love Enemy at the Gates. The twists that this movie takes will leave you with your mouth hanging wide open at the very end, wondering how you really did get from point A to point B. It's really that good.
