Every parent worries about the movies that their children watch -- with good reason. There are so many themes out there that are just not suitable for children. Children don't have to grow up faster than they should just because they're being exposed to more adult themes. If you're serious about taking back the remote and really controlling the experience that your child has with the media, this list of movies is definitely for you. The following seven movies are all ones that kids not only love, but they are movies that are safe for children to watch.
1. Alice in Wonderland
This is the 2010 version, with Johnny Depp playing the Mad Hatter. It's a remake of the old school version, with a lot more edge and attitude. Your youngest children may not be suitable for this film, but your older children will really like it. As a parent, you might want to watch the entire movie in full before you can say whether or not your children will be able to handle the show.
2. Willy Wonka
Family is the greatest gift of all -- and we learn that in this remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In this remake, Charlie Bucket is the little boy that receives the Golden Ticket and gets into the secretive Willy Wonka factory where nothing is really as it seems. There are other kids there as well, but they're rotten in one way or another. The story highlights the power of being a good person, as well as being with your family. Don't let us spoil it though -- watch it with your kids and see for yourself!
3. Corpse Bride
If your kids liked Nightmare before Christmas, chances are also good that they will like Corpse Bride. This film is directed by the same guy -- Tim Burton. In this story, a young shy man is nervous before his wedding and goes out into the woods to calm his nerves -- and ends up getting much more than he bargained for. IT's a predictable story with a few twists, but your children will love it.
4. Fox and the Hound
This children's movie is all about the power of friendship -- even among two people that are supposed to be enemies. As the title gives it away, it's about a fox that becomes friends with a hunting dog. As you can imagine, this causes a lot of problems considering that the fox is supposed to be hunted down by the dog. Since it's a children's movie, you can ultimately guess that there's a happy ending, but it's still a good story.
5. All Dogs Go to Heaven
What would you do to get into the pearly gates? Well, for one dog that's down on his luck, he'll have to save an entire city of dogs? This children's movie got big points with our staff because of the different musicals and songs -- you will be able to really feel the story as it moves back and forth.
6. Oliver and Company
This children's movie is all about a stray cat that is fighting to find a real home. The cat ends up with a group of dogs that puts them under their wing to find a better home. Of course, nothing is as it seems, and you'll definitely get sucked into this story as you learn what ultimately happens to Oliver.
7. Fievel Goes West
This is the story of Fievel, a mouse that dreams of finally finding a home. In order to do this, Fievel has to go out West and fight bigger challenges -- like a cluster of cats that want to take over an entire town. You have to watch this movie to see not only the action, but also the great musicals. "Somewhere Out There" will absolutely melt your heart, and you might even be surprised to find your child curled up right under you -- how touching!
Sure, we could have listed a few more children's movies -- there are just so many movies out there that it's hard to pick! You'll most likely have your own movies that you want to show your children, but the reality is that there are really good movies to be found here -- why not watch them today?
