Is there something magical about cartoons? We definitely think so! The cartoons of our childhood are something that never fails to make us smile. In fact, these old TV shows have been around so long that you shouldn't even be surprised to find that your children might still be watching the same cartoons that you loved!
Now, at this point you might wonder why we would even bother trying to get you excited about your old school cartoons, when it's clear that these shows aren't on the air anymore, in most cases. The truth is that the power of the Internet is why you should still care about retro cartoons. It's all about making sure that you will be able to go onto Netflix or even Amazon and pick up a little piece of your childhood, or discover a new show that you can bring to your children. You don't have to feel like you won't be able to get that goal accomplished if you really want it.
So, without further delay, here are eight old school cartoons that will definitely make you miss childhood.
1. The Jetsons

Let's start our list off by getting futuristic with it! The Jetsons was a fun cartoon because it gave children a taste of what the future might be. Of course, considering that the Jetsons is a pretty old cartoon, it had the usual technology puns -- robots, flying cars, and life way up in the clouds with plenty of futuristic conveniences. You had to feel a little sorry for a guy like George Jetson, who never seemed to get ahead in life for very long without something happening. Of course, there was always the lovely Jane to look at while George messed up one thing after another.
2. Thundercats
Thunder! Thunder! Thundercats! HO! Come on, if you grew up seeing this cartoon show you know that you said that line at least once. There was nothing like Saturday morning reruns of Thundercats along with your favorite breakfast cereal. Going out to get yourself another bowl was almost a complete sin, because you never knew how long the commercials would last, and who wanted to miss a single moment? By the power of Greyskull, indeed.
3. The Flintstones
The Flintstones was fun because it was finally a cartoon show that wasn't about the perfect family. In fact, the Flintstones are very much like the way families are now. Not quite perfect, but the good moments definitely outweigh the bad moments. Fred Flintstone had Wilma, and Barney Rubble had Betty, and all was right in the world. Pebbles and BamBam were great bonuses that made sure that you would definitely be laughing long after the show ended -- even if you didn't always understand the jokes.
4. Garfield
Garfield's a bit newer than some of the other additions to this list, but its humor fits well into the list. The fast talking orange fat cat and the slow-witted owner is a great theme that first made its run in the funny papers, then on TV. If you have an older child, show them a few episodes of Garfield. You'll be surprised how many laughs you actually get.
5. Ghostbusters
Who you gonna call? If you thought that this was only a successful movie franchise, then you're definitely mistaken. It's really a great cartoon series as well. If you have young children today, you can surprise them with DVDs of the show. They're a bit harder to find, but they are definitely still out there if you look hard enough.
6. Care Bears
Now, this cartoon is definitely for the youngest members of the family. Care Bears is a cartoon show that has gotten some serious modifications over the years, but the old school version is definitely one of the best. You don't have to look hard for it, either. It's all over Amazon as well as EBay. If you're the garage sale type, you can definitely find plenty of these to choose from offline as well.
7. Space Ghost, Coast to Coast
Now, this addition might get some controversy going in the comments, but we definitely stand by it. After all, Space Ghost started out friendly enough, trying to bridge the gap between young kids, teens, and adults. However, this is definitely one of the shows that prompted the Cartoon Network to go and create Adult Swim. The later episodes of Space Ghost were just too dirty for mainstream programming, but they became a huge hit with teens and adults. While some debate that it's the worst decision that Cartoon network, the truth is that there are definitely other decisions that they could have made that would have been far, far worse than creating Adult Swim, one of their most popular programming blocks.
8. Johnny Quest
Johnny Quest has two main versions: the old school one, and a "new school" version that added some 3D and futuristic elements. No matter which one you happen to find in the film vault, you can rest assured that you're definitely getting something very interesting for the whole family. Some episodes tend to lag and get predictable, but the other additions to this list should help you get a well balanced cartoon show night going!
There are literally hundreds of different cartoons out there that are bound to catch your eye, but we only have so much space, you know ;) So tell us -- what cartoons should we have put on the list?
