In 2008, Fox's new show, Fringe, made its television debut. From the moment the pilot episode aired, this science-fiction drama became a popular hit. The unique story line was quite a refreshing change from the usual crime investigation and medical show lineups.
This show revolves around the use of fringe science: science that deals with subjects out of the realm of of mainstream topics and concepts. Because of this, Fringe has become the most fascinating and mesmerizing show Fox has showed to date. The strange phenomenon, the intriguing plots, the complex parallel universe, the synaptic transfers, The Observer. Fringe has it all, which is why it has gained over nine million fans and has been renewed for a second season.
Fringe's cast consists of relatively unknown actors, except for Peter Bishop who is played by Joshua Jackson. However, all of the main characters play their role well.
Olivia Dunham played by Anna Torv
She plays an FBI special agent whose job is to investigate unexplained scientific happenings involving the “The Pattern.” She was one of the children given an experimental drug that was supposed to get them ready for the future war against people from the parallel universe.
Peter Bishop played by Joshua Jackson
He does a little bit of everything on the show, but mainly assists in The Pattern investigations. It is rumored he is actually from the parallel universe that is frequently discussed on Fringe.
Dr. Walter Bishop played by John Noble
This kooky, genius researcher spent 17 years in a mental facility before being released to his son's, Peter Bishop's, care. Now he runs the lab used to investigate The Pattern.
Nina Sharp played by Blair Brown
Executive Director of Massive Dynamics, Nina Sharp has knowledge about The Pattern.
Charlie Francis played by Kirk Acevedo
Agent Francis works with Olivia and Peter.
Phillip Broyles played by Lance Reddick
The special agent in charge of the FBI's Fringe Division.
John Scott played by Mark Valley
Olivia's lover, Agent Scott's loyalty to the FBI was questionable. He died from injuries sustained in a car crash.
Astrid Farnsworth played by Jasika Nicole
She works under Dr. Bishop as part of the Science Team.
William Bell played by Leonard Nimoy
CEO of Massive Dynamics and former lab partner of Walter, he is living in the parallel universe.
From the pilot episode when an airplane flight lands at Boston's airport completely devoid of people to the season 1 finale where Olivia and Peter stop Mr. Jones, a biotech terrorist, from crossing over, fans were never disappointed by any episode.
Season 2 is shaping up to be even better. Hopefully, more questions will be answered; however, it seems for every question answered, half a dozen more are brought to mind. For instance, did Peter really die as a child, and was the Peter we know brought back by Walter from a parallel universe? Will viewers ever meet Olivia's stepfather who sends her those taunting cards for her birthday? I'll be watching to find out. Are you?
